Your 50% Chance of Staying Doomed!

Yip yip ya-hoo (as Limbaugh would say). The Dems health care plan, as you probably know, will cover 94% of the U.S. population.

Let’s have a drink to celebrate.

But hold that one, because if you are currently uninsured, you still have a 50% chance of staying this way even if the Dem plan gets signed by Obama.

Here are the simple numbers…

The U.S. population is approximately 305 million people.

The number without health insurance is 47 million.

Of it, less than 37 million are actually legal in the U.S.

From another perspective it means: approximately 12% is not insured.

The Dem Plan covers only 94%, which means 6% will be left without coverage.

Total: if you are of the 12% without coverage you still have a 50% chance of staying without healthcare.

Yeah… What a marvelous health plan.

You want more? The Dem plan for 94% coverage kicks in only in ’13. So my fellow 12% uninsured Americans: your 50% chance of getting insurance, has a 100% chance of waiting another 3-4 years.

Ok, so let’s give Medicare for everyone, as the recent plan is. In others, if the old plan is not good because it leaves to the dumps only 6% of the population, let’s go with Medicare and screw up the whole population.

Another note: Medicare is not free; it gets “officially” funded through 7.5% tax off of your weekly income. Plus, you still have premiums when you hit 65. So… if you think Free Health Care is coming your way, wash your face with cold water because you are day-dreaming.

  1. hi yossi, you are obviously an inteligent person and a talented writer. however, the numbers you provide are not at all acurate.
aside from this, i strongly believe that national healthcare would represent the torah and g-d’s will more then the present system in place. you can slap on names like communism and socialism to scare off religious people, but gov’t. policies are more complex then a two team color war.

the fact that yeshivish columists echo the voice of rush limbough is a disgrace to our religion and nation. please open your mind and try to develop an independant and moral opinion on the topics you wish to comment on. i have absolutely no problem reading an article that disagrees with my opinion, but not when it is based on the opinions and twisted numbers/logic of paid entertainers. whether they be hollywood stars, the less popular radio stars or elected officials i.e; bush, obama, etc.

  2. The “well known” number of ppl without insurance is 47 Million, of which ten million or so are not legally in the United States. Look it up. From there on, a divide the numbers to show the reader that the uninsured have only a 50% of getting coverage.

Regarding where Jews should stand on political issues, get this: our teachings is more in line with the Conservative side of political issues, than it is with the Leftist side.

Regarding to opening my mind, let me tell this the first time in public: I contributed 2 X $36 (the second one was a computer mistake) to the Obama team, back in ’08 when I thought he is something new. But his true colors came out. Therefore, at the time Nov. ’08 came around, Obama has looong lost my vote. so… yeah, I keep my mind open.

  3. i would like to see the receipts for your donation. the torah views may line up with the conservatives from a moral stand point (i.e; gay marriage, abortion, etc.) however, social policies, as outlined in the gemora, seem to line up with the lefts view.
therefore, it is only right for us religous jews, to create an independant view, consisting of both moral values and social justice. not the far right views of rush limbough or bill o’reilly.
